When my father was in the Royal Air Force in the 1950s, he was in charge of a Malay unit who routinely carried this kind of knife/machete. It is commonly used in the jungle to clear brush and vines from the path and campsites. When he revisited Malaysia in the 90s, he brought back some of these knives for my brother and me, and I immediately fell in love with the style and size. In this two-day class we will make a traditional parang with a 10”-11” 80CrV2 blade, with a hidden tang, wood-handled construction and a strengthening bolster.
